Are UK School’s a “Hostile Environment” for Black Children?

So, someone invites you to their home to stay. Come they say, we have so many opportunities for you. It’s the”Motherland” they said!. Little did the generations know, that despite fighting in UK wars on the front line, risking life and limb.
.
Rebuilding the UK after WWll, being on the front line of the NHS, facing racism, discrimination, and abuse whilst driving the buses they hoped that one day, if they just assimulated into society, kept their heads down that hey would be treated with some respect and raise their families in peace.

However, this could not be further from the truth hostility, racism, bullying, attacks on the street, violent brutality, discrimination in the workplace, and education system.

But wait! roll on 75 year’s to 2020, what does this environment look like for the children and grandchildren? The “melting pot” we keep hearing so much about this homogenous happy swirl, of black brown, and withe people all living together in the UK happy and smiling.

No, let us not kid ourselves, this the most falsified information being pushed by the mainstream media. We’re not saying that people don’t mix, we are not saying there are a lot of success stories, however the resinating underline racism, is a cancer many have to contend with on a daily basis.

Every day Black children are dropped off at the school gates, parents sending them to go and get an education. However, what parents are not seeingis that they are sending their most beautiful children into a “Hostile Environment” on a daily basis.

Black children’s mental health is often ignored, and even when a parent fights for years to get a correct diagnosis, the support is often not put in place. These children end up being placed in isolation on a regular basis, are given uncountable detentions, often for behaviours they at times they have no control over. If the correct support were put in place many of these children would not find themselves in a position of meltdowns in the school setting.

Many plans stipulate one-to-one support, counselling, the opportunity to take time out of the class room, however this is not happening in all cases. It’s as though, when you are a black child you are being punised for having a disibility.

Since the lockdown in 2020, schools went back in September exclusions of children with mental health conditions have increased and families are crying for help. The School Governor’s side with the school as we know they are a “critical friend” after all. But whilst this lomng standing “buddy system” continues, black children are being pushed out of education, being placed in an even worse environment (Pupil referral Unit’s) where if they are lucky, they may change the current statistics of lesst then 0.1% leaving with any meaningful exams.
